Termite mounds indicating direction North
Amitermes, a genus of termites in the family Termitidae, build tall, thin, wedge-shaped mounds that are typically oriented North-facing. The extensive system of tunnels and conduits helps control the climate inside the mound. In Southern Africa, fungus-growing termites, which build enclosed mounds without visible ventilation holes, belong to the genera macrotermes. These macrotermes mounds can be up to 6 meters high above ground. The tip nearly always leans slightly over, and this termite mound also faces North, which can be taken as a reliable direction pointer. Termite Lite, acting as a North Star, illuminates the natural intelligence found in organisms such as the Termite insect, that mystically have the inner knowing to build such complex and brilliant structures.
